Professional certification prepares professionals for new challenges

Continued education is key as you advance in your career. As you take on new responsibilities in a new role, it is critical that you find ways to prepare yourself for new challenges. Earning a designation through NACM and FCIB’s Professional Designation Program is an excellent way to build and refine your skills as you prepare to put your best foot forward.

Andrei Shchekin, CICP, manager of finance operations and transformation for Bobrick Washroom Equipment (North Hollywood, CA), recently earned his Certified International Credit Professional (CICP) designation to build a strong foundational understanding of business credit as he started in a new role.

“My main goal was to deepen my understanding of credit and gain structured, credible knowledge from a trusted source,” Shchekin said. “NACM was the clear choice, as there weren’t many comparable alternatives. I’m very happy with that decision. The course fully met my expectations and I learned a great deal.”

After working for nearly a decade in management consulting, Shchekin took on a role in financial leadership where he would oversee the credit department. Shchekin wanted to learn more about business credit as he took on the new responsibility, so he turned to NACM and FCIB.

“Our team is strong and experienced, but I wanted to strengthen my ability to support their development, identify process gaps and drive improvements,” Shchekin said. “The course helped me achieve exactly that. For instance, we’ve already introduced new corporate accounts receivable KPIs and enhanced our reporting. I’ve also received additional budget approval from our credit team lead to continue NACM education next year.”

The course material not only helped Shchekin develop a strong foundational understanding of business credit, but it served as a resource for him to look back on in the future. “I probably absorbed more than I can immediately apply,” Shchekin said. “I view the course materials as an excellent reference resource that I plan to revisit as new situations arise.”

With a more refined understanding of international business credit, Shchekin is more confident as he oversees the credit department. “It feels great to have the right expertise,” Shchekin said. “It reduces the risk of simple mistakes, builds confidence in decision-making and provides a solid foundation for continuous improvement.”

Study tip: Consistency is key. “I recommend blocking one dedicated hour a day on your calendar for studying and protecting that time,” Shchekin said. “Stay committed and enjoy the learning process.”
