The goal for B2B credit managers is to wisely offer credit to customers, minimize nonpayment risk and foster business relationships. It is through NACM’s Professional Certification Program, that credit professionals are able to learn or re-educate themselves on various aspects of trade credit, becoming a more efficient credit leader in the process.

Jackson Subbert, CBA, credit analyst II at Lennox Industries Inc. (Richardson, TX), earned his Credit Business Associate (CBA) designation to better understand the credit industry. “I was typically reviewing the financial health of different companies,” he said. “But after the designation, I learned about other aspects of collection and gained a better understanding of how to review financial statements.”

Subbert said that through his company’s support for continued education with NACM, he was able to take an in-person class at Credit Congress & Expo and another at the NACM Southwest location in Coppell, TX. “I knew relatively little about the legal side of collections and bankruptcy filings, so that took some extra attention to learn,” he said. “It was also helpful to talk with other people in class to hear different strategies that they found helpful on a day-to-day basis.”

The courses widened his credit knowledge as he learned about the many different practices in collections. “While each company’s goal is the same, the process to get there can vary widely from company to company,” Subbert said. Aside from engaged classmates, he was fortunate to have great instructors for his classes. “They were very approachable, and each class was more like a discussion than a lecture.”

💡Study Tip: When in doubt, ask questions. “Not only did the instructors have a vast amount of real-world experience, but they were also able to share stories that helped me remember different scenarios,” Subbert said.
