Member Spotlight: Certifications Make for Resilient Credit Leaders
Learning isn’t easy; it demands careful planning, effective time management and a few sacrifices. However, the rewards are always worth the effort. NACM’s six-level Professional Certification Program helps credit professionals enhance their knowledge and skills, while also developing resilience and leadership abilities.
For instance, the Certified Business Fellow (CBF) designation recognizes advanced expertise and significant contributions in business credit, including proficiency in business and credit law. “Despite my years in credit, I learned a lot more about the sales side and legal contracts while earning my CBF,” said Melissa Isaak, CBF, credit analyst at Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc. (Coon Rapids, MN).
Along with the knowledge earned, Isaak overcame self-doubt and demonstrated perseverance in her designation journey. “It helped me remember to not give up, no matter how hard it is,” she said. “Now that I’m finished, I can move forward. If anyone is looking to earn their CBF, I highly recommend it. Put any fears aside and just do it!”
💡Study Tips: Take your time. “I made note cards and studied them for four-to-five hours each week,” Isaak said. “I’d also remember the keyword or associate a word with a definition to help me answer questions on the final exam. If I didn’t understand something, I’d go back to the textbook and research it online.”
