NACM Designation helps open new doors
Earning your credit business associate (CBA) designation takes dedication, with many dividing time between work, family and coursework in order to take this big step in their career development. Maria Nicholson, CBA, assistant market credit manager at Ferguson Enterprises LLC, (Newport News, VA), earned her CBA designation on a journey she found “intense but very gratifying.”
Earning your credit business associate (CBA) designation takes dedication, with many dividing time between work, family and coursework in order to take this big step in their career development. Maria Nicholson, CBA, assistant market credit manager at Ferguson Enterprises LLC, (Newport News, VA), earned her CBA designation on a journey she found “intense but very gratifying.”
Nicholson began taking the classes right as she began a new management position within her company, facing both challenges head on as she worked to deepen her understanding of credit. Taking the classes to earn her CBA meant creating a strict schedule that carefully allotted time for her coursework.
“I did not abandon my family or my fun activities, I just rearranged my time,” Nicholson said. “On the weekends, if I had something planned, I studied early in the morning. During the week, I studied after dinner time. When I felt overwhelmed, I gave myself a day or two of rest to clear my mind.”
Earning the designation has not only helped Nicholson advance in her career, but reminded her how much she enjoys learning. “This designation opened a few doors to keep on growing within the company,” Nicholson said. “Additionally, I have always loved learning new things, so I took on the challenge with a lot of enthusiasm.”
