Member Spotlight: Eye on the Prize
Securing a professional designation in credit management not only enhances your expertise but also significantly enriches your career, opening doors to new opportunities and greater recognition in the field. The Certified Business Fellow (CBF) designation, earned after the CBA, is one of the six levels of NACM’s Professional Certification Program. It highlights advanced knowledge and contributions in business credit and demonstrates expertise in business and credit law.
Recent CBF designee, Becky Campo, CBF, credit manager at Standard Supply and Distributing Company (Dallas, TX), said credit professionals should strive to earn their credentials. “What I’ve learned throughout this process will be invaluable throughout my entire career,” she said.
Although thrilled and proud of her accomplishment, earning her CBF designation was no small feat. “The CBF had one of the hardest tests and course material I’ve seen, so it was challenging to learn it all in a short period of time,” she said.
Campo’s determination is what helped her successfully pass the course. “I was tough on myself after failing the first exam,” she said. “But I persevered and kept my focus on the end result. Knowing the value and what I needed to improve made passing the second attempt even more rewarding.”
💡Study Tip: Get a study partner. “The second time around, me and a classmate of mine quizzed each other and studied the vocabulary intensely,” Campo said. “We studied individually for an hour most evenings and then together for two-to three hours during the weekend for a couple months before the exam. Studying with her provided support and encouragement, and forged a lifelong friendship in the process. Now, I’m excited and can’t wait to get my CCE!
