Designations set you apart in the credit industry

Credit management is a dynamic profession, evolving to fit each unique business and industry. Given the vastness of the credit industry, it can be hard to stand out among your fellow credit managers. NACM’s Professional Certification Program allows credit professionals to hone their skills and obtain designations that distinguish them from their peers while aiding their career advancement.

Leila Wolfe, CBA, credit supervisor at Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, (Scottsdale, AZ), said earning her Credit Business Associate designation helped her stand out in the industry while also bettering her understanding of credit.

“After completing my CBA at Credit Congress this summer, I realized the importance of the designation series and how having these designations really set you apart in the industry,” Wolfe said. “I want to close any knowledge gaps I have and be the expert my organization needs to increase sales and mitigate bad risk.”

Professional certification programs help deepen your understanding of credit, even if you have been working in the industry for years. Whether you are looking to brush up on a few skills or prepare for the challenges a new promotion might bring, earning a designation is a testament to your continued efforts to push your credit career further ahead.

“Continuing to grow and learn is vital in credit management,” Wolfe said. “We cannot stop learning just because we have been in the same role for 15 years and think we might know all there is to know. Laws change, economic situations change, we have to grow with the world or we are no longer useful to our teams or our organization.”

Designation programs offer more than just education, they’re also an opportunity to get more involved with NACM and network with our members who share your passion for credit.

“My favorite part of the experience has been growing my network of skilled credit professionals who are just as engaged in continuous learning as I am,” Wolfe said. “Surrounding myself with professionals with differing viewpoints and opinions only makes me better able to problem solve and I am so thankful for that exposure.”

💡Study tip: “Attend the NACM sponsored review classes and use the study guides on the national website. Reach out to NACM for assistance as you need it, they are always there to make sure you succeed.”
