Designation supercharges career in credit

Earning a designation through one of NACM and FCIB’s six Professional Certification Programs is a big step in a credit manager’s career, as it refines the skills they use every day as they approach tricky credit dilemmas with a keen eye for detail. After being inspired by colleagues, Varsha Gurram, financial analyst II at Paraxel International (India) Pvt. Ltd. (Hyderabad, India), pursued her Certified International Credit Professional (CICP) designation.
While Gurram has worked in the credit field for six years, the designation courses still offered new, engaging materials. “Although many concepts were familiar, the course delved into areas I rarely encounter in my day-to-day work,” Gurram said. “Particularly enlightening were the modules on international shipping terms, cross-border laws and regulations, and foreign exchange policies. These topics not only broadened my professional knowledge but also gave me insight into the global aspects of credit management.”
Designation classes are not only an opportunity to deepen your understanding of business credit, but a chance to expand your professional network as there are many other working credit professionals embarking on the designation journey along with you.
“A major highlight was the live course review sessions conducted by the team,” Gurram said. “It offered a rare opportunity to put faces to names and engage directly with the instructor and team as we don’t get to meet fellow members from class, so meeting virtually felt good.”
A designation is a mark of a well-rounded credit professional dedicated to pushing themselves further in their career. Designation courses equip credit managers with the tools they need to thrive in the world of business credit. “The knowledge gained, the connections made and the skills developed have been invaluable,” Gurram said. “I look forward to applying these insights in my career and potentially exploring more educational opportunities in the future.”
📝Study tip: “Stay consistent with weekly modules and assignments on scheduled basis,” Gurram said. “This approach allows me to engage with peers, clarify doubts with team members and gain confidence through each module quiz. Regular interaction and consistent quizzing helped identify strengths and areas of weakness, making the learning process more manageable and effective.”
