Advancing B2B Credit Careers: The Importance of NACM’s Professional Certification Program
B2B credit management requires a specific type of professional. Not only must they be knowledgeable and skillful in various aspects, but they must be proactive in their learning. NACM’s six-level Professional Certification Program allows credit professionals the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and enhance their skills in B2B credit.
Karleigh Potter, CCE, CICP, senior credit analyst at Hampton Lumber Sales (Portland, OR), earned her Certified Credit Executive (CCE) to continue her education and grow in her career. “Having over 10 years of experience in the credit field and having been involved with NACM throughout my career allowed me to complete the NACM Career Roadmap and pursue my CCE,” she said. “The challenging part was finding the time to sit down, study and make sure I was prepared.”
Despite being out of college for some time, Potter stayed on track during her designation journey. “I was able to dive into some credit related topics that I don’t deal with on a day-to-day basis in my job, so now I feel more comfortable dealing with more things,” she said.
Having earned her CCE, Potter is more confident and knowledgeable about her work each day. “I have two young daughters and I love the fact that they watched me put in the time and hard work to be successful and it paid off.”
💡Study tips: Give yourself enough time so that you aren’t cramming all the information in a short period of time. Potter found the book, Credit Management Principles and Practices, and the book, Understanding Financial Statements, helpful during the course. “Going through the review and discussion questions at the end of each chapter of each of those books was very helpful!”
