From skill to confidence: The power of credit certification

Expanding on your knowledge of credit management by completing one of NACM and FCIB’s six Professional Certification Programs not only refines the skills you use every day but instills a newfound confidence in even the most experienced credit managers.

Expanding on your knowledge of credit management by completing one of NACM and FCIB’s six Professional Certification Programs not only refines the skills you use every day but instills a newfound confidence in even the most experienced credit managers. For Pam Turner, CBA, collections specialist at ROMCO, Inc. (Carrollton, TX), earning her Credit Business Associate (CBA) designation was an opportunity to not only grow in her career, but gain confidence even when facing the trickiest credit dilemmas.

When it comes to pursuing additional education, no two journeys are the same, as each person’s personal commitments and availability shape their class schedule. “I took the required courses online over a one-year period,” said Turner. “I was glad I decided to take the instructor-led courses as it helped to keep me on track. The most challenging part was trying to fit in the class time and studying while working full-time and honoring family commitments.”

Engaging with the class material and learning from experienced professionals can help you not only stay involved in the coursework but also draw connections between what’s being taught and what you’re seeing in your day-to-day work. “It was great to hear real world examples from the instructors and other students as we discussed the course materials,” Turner said. “That often times gave me a different perspective or way to approach a challenging account at work.”

While it may be challenging to squeeze time for classes and coursework into your already busy schedule, the journey and subsequent career boost make any sacrifices well worth it. “Definitely glad I finally made the time to earn the CBA,” Turner said.

✏️Study tip: “Keep your notes, tests and other material from your courses to use as a refresher when studying for the CBA Exam,” Turner said.
