Honda Joins Nissan, Dyson in Moving UK Operations

Honda announced Feb. 20 it will be moving its operations located in the U.K. to Japan at the end of its production cycle, which is due to close in 2021. Honda now joins Nissan and Dyson, who have also decided to move operations outside of the U.K.

Honda did not immediately blame Brexit for its decision to move to Japan, but did say in a statement, "[the U.K.'s] current role as a global manufacturing hub may no longer be viable." The EU and Japan reached a new trade deal recently, making it easier to export goods to the EU from Japan, which may be a factor in the company's decision to move operations.

Honda's U.K. location has been in operation since 1986, producing 150,000 cars a year and employs 3,500 people, according to Supply Chain Dive.
