In Memoriam: Jack Clark, CCE
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jack Clark, CCE, who left us on January 1, 2026. Jack’s contributions to the credit management profession and to NACM were profound and lasting, marked by a rare combination of technical expertise, visionary leadership, and an extraordinary ability to bring people together.
Jack’s professional journey reflected both excellence and dedication. During his twenty-one years with Hughes Supply Company, he built and led a credit operation of remarkable scope—overseeing $400 million in monthly credit extensions and a team of more than 150 employees. His impact extended far beyond his own organization when he founded and chaired the Florida Improved Construction Practices Committee, becoming a trusted voice for suppliers throughout the state. His expertise was so valued that Governor Martinez appointed him to the Lien Law Study Commission in 1990, where he successfully advocated against legislation that would have harmed construction suppliers.
Jack’s commitment to NACM spanned decades and touched nearly every level of the organization. He served on NACM Tampa’s Board of Directors and served seven years on the National Board of Directors, including his tenure as National Chair from June 2000 to May 2001. His quiet demeanor belied his tremendous influence—he led critical initiatives including the National Strategic Planning Committee, and his thoughtful approach to leadership earned the respect of colleagues across the industry.
The honors Jack received tell the story of a career dedicated to raising standards and sharing knowledge. He earned NACM’s Fellow Award in 1985 and was the first in Florida to earn the CCE designation in 1986. He received NACM’s Executive Award in 1994, was named National Credit Executive of the Year in 1997, and in 2015 received NACM’s highest honor—the Alice M. H. McGregor Award of Exceptional Achievement.
Even after his distinguished career with Hughes Supply, Jack continued to serve the industry through the JRC Group and his work with United TranzActions, an NACM partner company. His deep understanding of construction credit and his unique ability to unite diverse perspectives remained invaluable throughout his relationship with NACM. Jack also worked for NACM South Atlantic up until his retirement.
We will remember Jack not only for his impressive accomplishments but for the quiet wisdom and collaborative spirit he brought to every endeavor.
